Full Name? David Camara. I've been told that the Spanish translation is "Camera".
Describe your first Wedding Photography gig? It all started about 10 years ago in Vermont, the day after a party. My friends Dan and Debbie woke me, to ask if I would shoot their wedding. I didn't know know what to anticipate in shooting a wedding, but felt up to the challenge, since I was an avid photographer in other disciplines. Turned out to be the best day of my life. I met my wife (Peggy) at their wedding. It was the perfect wedding: a great group of friends, laid back setting, a Zydeco band that played all night...
What do you feel is the most Important part of your job? Aside from the obvious of documenting the day, I would say that it's to meet each other prior to working together. If we're not comfortable with each other, it's a perfect recipe for a stressful day for both of us. I don't want that, and neither do you. I would rather be selective as to whom I work with, than work with people who are not on the same page as me. Just because you may like my work, you might not like me, the person. I want to make sure that we will be a good fit for each other!
What your Favorite part of your job? My job is to make people look great (among other things). So getting shots of a bride that document how great she looks, and the response I get when she sees her pictures, is Very rewarding. To add to my favorites, is to get a shot where the subject has no idea that a moment in time is being recorded. That's when you get real emotion! Although posed, formals may be necessary, I make a concerted effort to make the "pose", look and feel as informal and relaxed as possible. Working with people on the happiest day of their life is a bonus as well.
What was your Wedding like... Peggy and I eloped, because it seemed to fit our adventurous personalities. We got married in Belize. It was about as stress free as I could imagine. The morning of, consisted of kayaking & snorkeling, with the occasional cocktail thrown in... So, needless to say it was very untraditional. To celebrate with family and friends, we had a clam bake in Rhode Island, where I grew up, and most of my family still lives.
What was your Best Vacation? A couple years ago, Peggy and I took off for Vancouver with no plans whatsoever. This kind of held us up at customs when they asked us what we were doing there, and our answer was "we don't know yet...". We ended up on the West side of Vancouver Island, camping on a beach. The week consisted of pretty much nothing... exploring the beach's tide pools, camp fires on the beach, basking in the midnight sun with no one around. Pretty relaxing.
How would you spend your day if you blew off work? Visit my "Lifestyle" Gallery to see what I would do. It would definitely be spent outside!
Who is your favorite TV Character? Don't know. We don't have a TV. But to answer the question, it would probably be Gilligan. Nothing could piss him off! That guy was as happy go lucky as I would like to be.
Where did you grow up? I'll tell you when I grow up! Actually I grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. It was a pretty cool place to grow up. A block from the beach, and a block from a golf course that was used as a baseball, football, and kickball field, until we got kicked off by the greens keeper. Occasionally we played golf too (but always snuck on. ha ha)
Music Taste? Anything. However, I am not a big fan of major conglomerates dictating what gets played! There is SO much great music out there that doesn't reach the masses, because of mass communication companies. Thanks for letting me rant! So...in no particular order: Reggae, Bluegrass, Old School Rap, Country, Ska... the list is pretty diverse.
Favorite Genre of Movies? Comedy! Life is serious enough.
What Animal would you want to be? Based on my Dog's (Mojo) life, I would say a dog.
But enough of my opinion. What do others think?
